Forehead
Fever Thermometer will help you keep your
cool
Pros:
easy
to use, cheap, small
Cons: easy
to lose, accuracy is questionable sometimes
The Bottom Line Good
for quick checks, but not as accurate as an
old-fashioned or ear thermometer. Useless if baby
is squirmy and must be read while in contact with
the forehead.
Recommended: Yes
I
bought this thermometer to use with my 13 month
old.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Seems simple and easy to use. It's small and easy
to keep handy. The readout is quick.
USING THE THERMOMETER
Just hold the strip to the baby's head and then
read the brightly colored number. Getting my baby
to hold still was harder than I thought it would
be. She wanted to SEE the thermometer. And you
have to read the results while it's in contact
with the baby, you can't lift it off, walk to the
other side of the room, and read it in the light.
ACCURACY
I used this thermometer four times on two nights
when I suspected my daughter was running a fever.
All four times I immediately followed the forehead
thermometer with a very accurate underarm reading
(she was sleepy, so I got away with this). In each
case, the forehead thermometer was within 2
degrees of the baby's temperature, usually about
one degree lower than the more accurate underarm
reading. I would say this is "good
enough" to see if the baby has any fever, but
if they do, I would follow it up with a more
accurate measurement device to see if you should
call the doctor or not.
CARE
Totally easy. Put back in the little case and
you're done! No lenses to buy, no thermometer to
clean, etc. However, its small size makes it easy
to lose this thermometer. I couldn't find mine for
a few days and then discovered that my husband was
using it as a bookmark!
Gerber
Forehead Fever Thermometer
Pros:
simple to use,
wipe clean, fast
Cons: not
accurate to percentages
Recommended: Yes
The
Gerber Forehead fever thermometer is a strip
that "lights" up with your childs
temp. It is really great for checking the
general temperature, and finding out if you
need to really check baby's temp.
I've had one for each of my children, and it
really works great to check them when they are
sleeping, without having to wake them. When
you just aren't sure if they
"really" have a temperature, or just
a slight fever, this can set your mind at
ease.
The gradiants on it aren't specific, you can't
tell if your child has a fever of 101.5, but
you can tell if its over 102 or under 100 that
sort of thing, a good non invasive, general
idea of the fever.
I always used it as a first step, if I
"thought" they might have a temp, if
it showed over 101, I'd check them with the
"real" thermometer to monitor them,
but if it didn't, I knew it wasn't a big
worry. If your child has been sick, and you
want to keep a check on the fever, but hate
waking them up to do it, just slide this
flexible little strip on their forehead for a
moment, and you can rest easier.
Easy to clean, just wipe down, stores in its
own little case, no fuss, no muss, no
problems. A great item to keep in your nursery
or diaper bag.
Digital
Thermometer
Pros:
easy to use, easy
to read, accurate
Cons: none
The Bottom Line
If you need to get an easy,
accurate temperature this is the best
thermometer for the job!
Recommended: Yes
Throughout
the years I have tried many different
thermometers, from the old fashioned glass
mercury type (which by the way, I can't read
at all!) to the modern day ear type (way too
expensive and not accurate). My quest for the
perfect thermometer ended when I found the
Safety 1st Digital Thermometer!
First of all the price was what drew me to
this thermometer, I just can't pass up a
freebie! How did I get it for free you may
ask. Well, I do a lot of reward sites on the
computer, and at one of them called Blink.com
I had finally accumulated enough points to
redeem them for a prize. So off I went surfing
the rewards offered! To my dismay there
weren't many fabulous prizes offered for the
points I had (75,000 to be exact), but I
needed a new thermometer and the Safety First
Digital Thermometer was one prize I could get.
So I placed my order. I'd tell you more about
Blink.com, but that's another epinion.
The thermometer is white measuring 5 inches
long. It comes with a clear plastic case for
storage. The digital display area is 1 1/2 cm
long (large enough for easy reading). The
on/off button is slightly raised and makes
turning the thermometer on very easy. This
thermometer can be used to take temperatures
orally, rectally or under the arm. Ok, sounds
great so far, but how does it work?
In my opinion it works great! My three year
old daughter, Courtney, is too old to have her
temperature taken rectally (at least I think
so) and yet with other thermometers she
couldn't hold them in her mouth long enough to
get an accurate reading. The Safety First
Digital Thermometer has solved this problem!
In as little as 60 seconds, the thermometer
beeps, signalling that the maximum temperature
has been reached. So now Courtney can
comfortably get her temperature taken orally
or under the arm, which makes her feel like a
*big girl*.
As for accuracy, the thermometer has always
given me the right reading, even after double
and triple checking! The battery (alkaline
cell GP192) lasts for over 200 hours, another
great feature!
Overall I am extremely pleased with the Safety
First Digital Thermometer. I would recommend
it to anyone looking for an easier, accurate
way to take either a child's or an adult's
temperature! It's simply the best!
