The
backwaters of Kerala form an intricate network of
canal, rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries and
deltas spanning more than 2000 kilometres.
Backwaters
are one of the unique attractions of
Kerala, a chain of canals extending about 1500 kms,
with a network of 44 rivers, lagoons and lakes.
Most of it is naturally formed. Here we have
combined Backwater along with Canals made for
continuous traffic of men and materials.A
leisurely cruise along any one of the backwaters
is a delightful journey of discovery, one that
takes you past an ever-changing landscape where
remote villages give way to vast stretches of
peaceful countryside, which in turn give way to
bustling towns and cities.
Alleppey,the
Venice of the East, with its complex maze of
narrow waterways, is home to a diverse variety of
animal and bird life. A boat ride to Kuttanad
takes you through green rice paddy fields or north
to the sleepy village of Kumarakom on the Vembanad
Lake. Everybody can enjoy the local skiff
fishermen launching their cockleshell boats and
coir workers deftly weave coconut strands into
long ropes on spindles stretched between palm
trees; chat to the village folk; canoe in the
quiet lagoons and generally enjoy the peace &
tranquility.
