Tourism
A
spectacular landmark in the capital is the magnificent new
mosque Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah at Lebuhraya Sultan Hassanal
Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong. It adds a new dimension to Brunei
and to the whole region as one of the grandest monuments of
Islam. It is the brainchild of His Majesty with every detail
meticulously rendered revealing the true depths of His Majesty's
conviction.
Brunei
village, in an old-style, has been recreated at Kampong Parit
Mini Garden, 26 miles from the capital. In a tropical forest
clearing, visitors can explore 20 traditional-style stilt houses
consrtucted from bamboo, nipah palm and bark. In stark contrast,
about 30 minutes from town, the lights of the Crystal Arch and
Jerudong Park Playground attract visitors to a nightly
wonderland of fantasy rides, amusements and delicious food in
fragrant, landscaped garden setting.
Restaurants
and fast-food centres in Brunei, cater to a wide range of
tastes. Fresh fruit, vegetables and authentic local cuisine can
be obtained at the Tamu night market, in the centre of town. The
market takes on a special atmosphere when crowds come to shop
and eat in the evening. Among
the tourist attractions in Brunei Darussalam include His
Majesty the Sultan's Palace along Jalan Tutong, the Jame'Asr
Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Kiarong, the Omar Ali
Saiffudien Mosque by the Brunei river, the Jerudong Park, the
Royal Ceremonial Hall and Legislative Assembly in the capital,
the Brunei Museum on top of a hill overlooking the Brunei river;
waterfalls at Mendaran outside the capital; and Rampoyah off the
Labi Road in the Belait district; the longhouses in the interior
region of the country; the forest reserve at Sungai Liang,
Belait district; and the Temburong Field Studies Centre.
